Millions of children are fleeing their homes because of conflict and instability in their home countries, such as Syria, Afghanistan or Iraq. They are alone or with their families, looking for a safe place and a better life (Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan or Europe). They need stability, protection and support as well as water and food, clothing, health care, education and entertainment.
Being the most vulnerable, they are affected in a dramatic way: more than 1,500 children have drowned in the Mediterranean Sea and some 10,000 unaccompanied children are missing within our borders (UNICEF). No matter where they are or where they come from, all children have the same rights and need our protection. Behind the numbers there are children rights, some rights enshrined in the Convention on the Rights of the Child (C R C), the international treaty that commits all the countries involved in the immigration crisis to especially protect refugee children requesting the status refugee. |
